Follow Friday: #4

Follow my Book Blog Friday is hosted by parajunkie. Original post can be found here along with lots of other links.

Q: It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...
A: 1. I'm allergic to nickel so I can't wear most jewelry. Wearing jeans also sucks.
2. I can't stand it when my food is even the slightest bit burned, yuck. Growing up my dad would always try to trick me into eating 'well done' foods. He'd hide the slightly burned part of a hotdog with the roll and cover it in ketchup. My super taster wasn't fooled though.
3. I love infomercials. When it's late at night and I'm still up reading or blogging, I'm almost always watching infomercials... or Chelsea Lately. I've never ever bought something they've advertised though.
4. I can't seem to own an Apple product for very long before something bizarrely tragic happens to it. One ipod had a patio brick dropped on it, another was lost on a glacier, and another was dropped into a glass of orange juice. I've got my fingers crossed that my ipad and iphone survive.
5. I haven't tied my shoes since they left the store, I just slip them on and off. My puppy is working really hard to mess this up for me since he's a shoelace chewer.

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by crazy-for-books. Original post can be found here along with lots of other links.

Q: "If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"
A: The first place that popped into my head was HOGWARTS! But after actually considering the question I think my answer would have to be the techno/scifi-esque NYC created in JD Robb's In Death series. I want flying cars and food that's made with the press of a button. I love NYC and I would love to visit a futuristic depiction of it for a day. And if I happen to get a private tour of the city from Roarke... well, I'm not complainin'.

Follow me, and I'll follow you! Be sure to leave a comment to let me know.

I am with you on the love of infomercial. I like to say that it is because I am a marketeer but to tell you the truth I just like seeing the strange or ridiculous product they advertise.
    Have a wonderful weekend,

  3. Hopping through. I'm the opposite with burnt food. I grew up with everything cooked well done and charred meat. I actually like the taste of char - even slightly burnt toast. It's bad for you though.

That's how everyone else in my family is. The more charred/burnt, the better. My sister is one of those people who sets her food on fire to make it more 'smokey' tasting.

Haha, I've got the worst luck. I'm sensitive enough to nickel that a quick shot at the doctors will leave a rash. :(

  7. Flying cars *would* be pretty awesome, although maybe it's not a good idea to clog both the air and the streets of NYC with traffic. :) I chose the completely unoriginal answer of Diagon Alley: http://gabrielreads.blogspot.com/2011/05/book-blogger-hop.html.

Also, can I just say that I love the idea of someone losing *anything* on a glacier. That's like being able to say that you dropped your earring in a volcano.

  8. Good choice!! I think there will be quite a few Harry Potter posts with today's question!

I agree with you about jeans, I hate jean shopping and I try to steer clear of having to wear them whenever I can!

My family and I go to Glacier National Park in Canada/Montana most summers. Last year I got tricked into leaving the most amazing lodge hotel ever (the fireplace was the size of my living room, ie the best place to read EVER) and we had a tour guide lead us across a glacier. Annndd I lost my ipod.

I bet you're right! The HP world is just so amazing...
I try to wear dresses and dress pants as often as I can... or just PJs. Sometimes I wish that jeans didn't literally hurt to wear though.

I kind of link burnt food too. LOL! Not too burnt, just a little crispy. I love JD Robb! I really need to get caught up on the In Death series. :)

    Happy Hopping!

  17. A glacier. Wow, at least that's a story! The place sounds beautiful, though.

Although I love the city as it is, visiting a possible future of it for a day would be interesting! If there's pizza, I'm there.

  18. Came by for the Hop. I haven't read any books by Robb, but I will have to now, I'd love a place with flying cars too - and I hope they have robots - I'd love to have a robot to travel with, so they could know all the world's languages and interpret when necessary!

  19. Visiting on the hop - I think your answers are great! Especially the choice between Hogwarts and Robb :D Flying cars and all are fine but I'd better be living in a mansion like Eve, drinking REAL coffee :D

Hubby likes his food burnt but I can't stand it. I don't think "Charred" is a flavor, is it?

  21. I’ve seen a lot of great picks and gathered some fresh titles to add to my ever-growing TBR list. My answer will probably stun most people because the world I picked is a place most people would be scared to death of and try to escape from. Me? I want in.

It's a fairly unusual hypersensitivity, just my luck. Mine also really, really stinks because nickel is stuck in pretty much everything.

Oh, yuck yuck yuck. You'd fit right in with my family. The more burnt, the better for them.

JD Robb is amazing! I've never caught up to the newest books (I'm usually 4 or 5 behind) but I've reread the 'entire' series 3 times. I can't get enough of Eve and Roarke.

I still can't believe I lost it there. That's the same trip that I left all my luggage on the shuttle because I was so excited about stretching my legs. Luckily I got all my luggage back.

  29. @Anja Kasap
There are robots! The scenes with them are usually pretty funny. Droids tend to be waiters, bartenders etc, and often times Eve needs information from them that they might have about a suspect. Her threats are always so creative :D

  31. I'm allergic to nickel too! I had to give up wearing earrings. I suppose I could purchase some pure gold ones, or maybe try pure silver, but I just haven't found it's been worth it.

Hogwarts was my first inclination too, but I finally decided on Rivendell. Of course, I've been reading lots of dystopian lately, so it's far easy for me to think of places I'd rather NOT go to than anything else! LOL.

Eve is such a lucky lady. A big mansion... a gorgeous husband... a charming butler to take all her frustrations out on. I'd love to give all of the speedy cars/airbikes Roarke is always forcing her on a try too.

Charred is definitely not a flavor, or at least not a complimentary one. Food tastes so much better when you're actually tasting the food.

My Apple products a treasured too although you wouldn't guess they are considering the bad things that happen to them. They never had a single scratch or problem before they met their sad fates though!

Tying shoes make me grumpy too, haha! It's not a laziness thing either. It's just I always tie them too tight or too loose or the bow looks wonky so if I just leave it the way I like it then tada! I don't have to tie them ever again.

I'm with silver earrings right now. A lot of the 'silver' ones I bought had nickel in them anyway because it prevents corrosion. I've now worn the same earring for 5 years straight.
My biggest problem with nickel are the buttons on jeans. The tiny amount of backing that touches skin give me (TMI moment) huge blisters.

  40. Wow, I never even thought of that! I almost never wear jeans... I'm more of a dress pants kind of gal.

My biggest nickel problem (more TMI moment) is the clasp on most bras. It's possible to find a plastic one if you really hunt around, but, most of them are made with a bit of nickel.
