Follow Friday: #5

Q: How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?
A: I'm anywhere from 2 to 4 books a week. I usually read at least one paperback and one ebook (hoping to get out of the habit of reading those as I'm getting eyestrain/headaches from it). I've never successfully made it through an audiobook, I just can't stay focused.

Q: What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked? Which have you disliked?
A: My favorite is probably The Lord of the Rings. This has absolutely nothing to do with my life size Legolas cardboard cutout that hung out in my living room for several months. Do you have any idea how many times I walked through there in the middle of the night and had freakin' mini heart attacks?! Anyway, I loved actually seeing the world which, while pretty awesome in my head, was truly breathtaking in the movie.
My least favorite is Eragon. I'll admit to loving that series which apparently isn't 'cool'. But I didn't like the movie at all, everything was all wrong.

  1. I have the same problem with audiobooks unless it's one I already know really well, like Harry Potter. The only other one I tried was a HP Lovecraft and I listened to it while I went for a walk and got so distracted I missed about half of one short story and had to relisten to it!

Probably my worst idea ever but I attempted to listen to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo recently. I'd listen to a sentence and then suddenly I'd be like 'ohhh, I need to go to the library tomorrow' or 'I wonder what I can scrounge together for dinner.' And then I'd have absolutely no clue what was going on with the book.

  4. 2-3 books is my usual pace - I used to be able to do a book a day, but then things like work starting becoming an inconvenience. :)

  5. I can't make it through audiobooks either! And it drives me crazy! I wish I could listen to them because I've got a few but I just can't focus on them in the same way that I focus on books! Have a great Friday! ;)

  7. Ha Ha - i love that you had life-size Legolas! I wish I had one too!

I couldn't really pay attention to Eragon the film, but I loved the book. Its hard to put my finger on why though...

I would love to read a book a day! I probably would be able to if I wasn't on twitter or google reader so much.

Audiobooks are so expensive too! I bought a few from a library sale and I was so bummed to find out that I couldn't listen to any of them because it's impossible to focus.

Legolas was supposed to be a joke gift from a friend of mine but I loved it :D
I'm following your blog now too (I think). GFC loaded once and I think my follow worked but it would load again.

  11. Hey!

I liked Eragon, it's the only book that my boyfriend didn't mock me for reading.

For whatever reason, I got crap from everyone when I read/loved the Eragon books. I'm glad to see others love them too though :)

  13. People tell me I'm crazy, but I like to read one book while listening to a different audio book. Helps me cut a swath through my TBR that much faster.

I thought the Eragon movie was pretty cheesy... but the book was pretty cheesy too, I thought, so at least my expectations weren't overly high.

  14. hey, happy Follow Friday! I love my e-reader, but it’s too, sometimes a bound book is the way to go. I have never tried an audio book before….Anyhow, I’m a new follower!

  15. New follower! Hopping by. I'm so jealous you can read that much in one week! I'm lucky to finish one in two weeks with such an active little girl on my hands!

YOU ARE CRAZY!! Or super multitasking talented. I can't imagine being able to do that when I'm not even able to listen to an audiobook while doing nothing.
Haha I love the books. I think it might have to do with my 'wanting a dragon or a unicorn as a pet' complex though. I was such a whimsical kid. I thought wearing winter clothes in summer could trick the earth into snowing.

Audio is fun if you're able to pay attention. Thanks for the follow! I'm already following your blog :)

Awww I would be so sad if that's all I got to read. My sister is about 12 years younger than me so my mom's still busy with her. She's in the same boat as you. I'm always passing her books I've loved that I think she'll like but she never gets to them anymore.

  18. Haha, I had a Legolas and Aragorn poster up in my room for a very, very long time! I watched the films over and over for that very reason.

I did enjoy Eragon though, I didn't think it was that dissimilar to the book. Although my partner can't help from commenting that young Sapphira looks like a otter every time we watch it!

My cardboard cutout is currently folded up in storage. I may need to resurrect it for The Hobbit ;) I think all of my friends will appreciate that and it honestly would probably make my house look classier.
