It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #2

"It's Monday! What Are You Reading?" is a weekly event, hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we're currently reading, recently finished and plan to read next.

Read Last Week

I wrote my first unfavorable review last week. I hated doing it. Usually when I dislike a book, I just stop reading and since I don't review DNFs, everything's great. The Secret Spiral by Gillian Neimark was a really quick read though so I felt compelled to finish it. It comes out 26 Jul 2011 and I guess if you want to trick your small child into thinking math is magical, then go buy it when it's released. I also read The Vampire Dimitri by Colleen Gleason. Didn't like it as much as the first but still really enjoyed it. Would have loved it even more if I hadn't found the heroine obnoxious for most of the book.

Currently Reading

I'm currently reading Gone by Michael Grant. It's the first in the Gone series which is a YA post-apocalyptic dystopian series. The book is one big adrenaline rush. My hands are practically shaking when I turn the pages. Everything about the book is so intense. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the books. I'm on page 320ish and that's just barely over halfway through!

To Read Soon

Ugh, Original Sin by Meth McMullen is on the 'needs to reads asap' list again. I finally have Divergent by Veronica Roth and I'm DYING to read it. Seriously, I'm beyond excited.

Soooo... what are you reading? Share your link or whatever in the comments!

    I'm really loving dystopia right now, so many awesome looking books!

    I'm so happy to hear that. I really hope I don't get caught in the high expectations trap when I finally read it though...

  4. Math is magical in its own way but the description of the book doesn't appeal at all.

    This coming week is my last week off before summer session. I have a few books I want to finish before school begins. Come see what they are.

    From the summary and cover, I was expecting the book to be whimsical and be about a bunch of magicians. I was disappointed when it was about things like people being quite literally made of numbers and the little girl needing to find the mysterious Fire to turn the numbers into a person.

  7. I have Gone and Hunger sitting on my tbr pile. I am taking a break from YA at the moment. I am seriously considering breaking it just to read these as I have heard nothing but good things about them.

  8. I liked all of Gleason's Regency Vampires series in different ways. I did find that I liked the female lead better in this one than I did in the first of the series because I saw some of the causes of her behavior. I have Original Sin on my TBR stack too and also must get to it soon. My Monday Report is here. Have a great week!

    I just finished Gone and I'm pretty sure I'll start having withdrawal symptoms if I don't go get the next book NOW ;)

    I can't recommend Gone enough. It was an amazing experience.

    @Kathy Martin
    No one else seems to have had a problem with her that I've 'talked' to. But she drove me up the wall. Her bossiness in the first book was what bothered me the most though (when we didn't know her motivations). And all of that irritation transfered over to this book for me.
