Waiting on Wednesday #1

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Book: Dead Iron (Age of Steam #1) by Devon Monk
Expected Publication: July 5th 2011 by Roc Trade
Summary: Welcome to a new America that is built on blood, sweat, and gears...
In steam age America, men, monsters, machines, and magic battle for the same scrap of earth and sky. In this chaos, bounty hunter Cedar Hunt rides, cursed by lycanthropy and carrying the guilt of his brother's death. Then he's offered hope that his brother may yet survive. All he has to do is find the Holder: a powerful device created by mad devisers-and now in the hands of an ancient Strange who was banished to walk this Earth.
In a land shaped by magic, steam, and iron, where the only things a man can count on are his guns, gears, and grit, Cedar will have to depend on all three if he's going to save his brother and reclaim his soul once and for all...

Why I'm Waiting On It: Devon Monk's urban fantasy/paranormal romance series, Allie Beckstrom, is amazing so naturally I'm excited about anything new she has coming out. I'm super excited about this one though because it's a steampunk/urban fantasy and I love bounty hunter books.

  1. Sounds a little strange, does he have more than one brother, cause it makes it seem like one brother is dead and then trying to help his brother survive...confused confused. Or maybe his brother is dying and he blames himself? Argh, confused!

    I don't usually read steampunk, so I don't know what to do about this book. It sounds interesting and something new, so I'll add it to my list for now and see if I get to it one day :)

    Thanks for the welcome, Jill! WoW is a great meme, I'm surprised that I hadn't done one sooner :)

    @Catherine
    I was a little confused by the summary too but I guess in a steampunk/paranormal world anything can happen! Perhaps he just thought his brother was dead and now has hope that he isn't. Either way, I adore Monk and I'm sure this book will be just as fun as her other series.
    Thanks for the welcome and I will be sure to check out your WoW in a few moments!

    I almost always love the covers for steampunk books, they're always so creative and fun. His outfit is a little too raggedy looking to make it a perfect cover for me, but it does work really well with the other cover aspects.
    I will be sure to check out your WoW post in a few moments. Happy read to you as well :)

    I love books involving bounty hunters. A hugely different series but still very awesome, the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich features bounty hunters and it's always so much fun.

    @soulunsung
    I've only read a few steampunk books but I've loved all of them. I'm hoping this one doesn't disappoint, it doesn't sound like it will :)
