Waiting on Wednesday #4

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Book: The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns #1) by Rae Carson
Expected Publication: September 20th 2011 by Greenwillow/HarperCollins
Summary: Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.
Elisa is the chosen one.
But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can’t see how she ever will.
Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.
And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.
Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.
Most of the chosen do.

Why I'm Waiting On It: Did you not see the cover? Okay, I'm excited about this one because it's YA high fantasy and actually looks good. Plus the whole king situation has me curious.

Book: Shadow Kin (The Half-Light City #1) by M.J. Scott
Expected Publication: September 6th 2011 by Roc
Summary: Welcome to the Half-Light City.
Imagine a city divided. On one side, the Night World, ruled by the Blood Lords and the Beast Kind. On the other, the elusive Fae and the humans, protected by their steadfast mages. A city held together by nothing more than a treaty-and even then, just barely...
I was born of a Fae mother, but I had no place amongst her kind. They called me "soulless." An abomination. Perhaps they're right...I'm a wraith, a shadow who slips between worlds. I was given into the service of a Blood Lord who raised me to be his most feared assassin. Still, I'm nothing more than a slave to my master, and to the need that only he can fulfill...
Then he orders me to kill Simon DuCaine, a powerful sunmage. In the blaze of his magic, my own disappears. Instead of seeking revenge, Simon shows me mercy. He wants to free me. But that's one thing my master and his kind will never allow.
And even if I thought I could trust Simon, stepping from the shadow into the light isn't as simple as it sounds...

Why I'm Waiting On It: I love the split sides the summary describes. I'm a sucker for UF assassins so I hope this one is good. And she looks really badass in the cover. :)

Share what you're waiting on or links to what you're waiting on in the comments and I'll be sure to check it out! I included a YA and adult pick this week because I couldn't pick just one.

  1. Shadow Kin sounds great! I went for some old-school, apocalyptic vampires in my WOW for this week.

  2. I definitely want the first book. The king's got me curious too. Hope it's as good as it looks!

  3. They both sounds really good, but I like the second cover better!! I'm a new follower, hop on over if you have the time:
    Juli @ Universe in Words

  4. @Sally Sapphire
I don't read enough paranormal apocalyptic stuff. I'm trying to get The Passage read but every time I get it from the library, my life implodes and I don't even have close to enough time.

I don't think I've ever read a book with a 'secret wife'. It should be interesting!

  5. @Sarah Darlington
Me too! I'll admit that when I'm planning my WoW post, I go for the books on my wishlist with pretty covers first ;) I like scrolling down my blog and seeing them.

    @Juli @ Universe in Pictures
My wishlist just wont stop growing! The covers and summaries books have this year are just too good.

  6. @Tribute Books Mama
Lots of cover love going on for these two! :)

  7. Got this on my TBR list - it sounds fab, doesn't it? Thanks for featuring it!

  8. The Girl of Fire and Thorns has just been added to my tbr list. It sounds so good and I haven't read a reeeeally good fantasy in awhile so I'm definitely going to check it out! Great picks!

  9. Great choices! I have both on my TBR pile :)

    My WoW,

    Have a nice week.

  10. @Scribal Goddess
So many books, so little time!

    @Loren Chase
It's been a really long time since I've read a good regular YA fantasy too. Hopefully this one won't let us down :)

  11. @Sharon
Great bloggers must read alike! ;)

  12. Both books have very beautiful story. Shadow Kin has an amazing cover!

  13. Great picks! I'm especially excited for The Girl Of Fire and Throns.

Love your WOW button, by the way! :)

  14. Thank you for following me!

The Girl of Fire and Thorns looks interesting, I might keep an eye out for some reviews of that one.

As regards LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean - it's really, really good, but you'd be amazed how long that blasted theme tune can get stuck in your head for! :|

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I try to reply to each and every one as well as return the favor to fellow bloggers.
