Mini Movie Review Montage #1

Here are some super short movie reviews. Click a movie cover to be taken to its IMDB page.

Movie: Faster (2010)
Genre: Action | Crime | Drama
Summary: An ex-con sets out to avenge his brother's death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he's tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man.
Rating: 4 Bites
Mini Review: I snagged this from netflix because I tend to enjoy Dwayne Johnson films and I wasn't disappointed. His character had just gotten out of prison for a robbery of which another crew killed his brother and several of his friends to take the money from. The movie takes us on his journey for revenge. I loved the odd moral code Driver has; he won't hurt those he's not seeking revenge against even if it could mean his own life. I like my violent killing movies to have a little humor in them but this one had nothing so it only got 4 bites from me. There are no complaints other than that personal preference.

Movie: Lemonade Mouth (TV 2011)
Genre: Family | Musical
Summary: "Lemonade Mouth" tells kids and tweens that building your confidence rocks and finding your destiny rules. The story follows five disparate high school students - Olivia (Bridgit Mendler), Mo (Naomi Scott), Charlie (Blake Michael), Stella (Hayley Kiyoko), and Wen (Adam Hicks) who meet in detention. They realize they are destined to rock, and ultimately form a band that becomes a champion for students sidelined by the high school elite.
Rating: 5 Bites
Mini Review: I have a huge soft spot for these TV Disney movies excluding High School Musical. This one is probably my favorite now. A group of misfit kids get stuck in detention together and end up forming a band as their way of getting their own voices heard. Each had a troubled home life and everyone seems to be working against them and the band's success. I loved the music and the story. I hope to read the book that this movie is based off of soon!

Movie: TRON: Legacy (2010)
Genre: Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi
Summary: The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father's creation turned bad and a unique ally who was born inside the digital domain of The Grid.
Rating: 5 Bites
Mini Review: Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I had no clue what was going on pretty much half of the time (I was watching while blogging). I freakin' loved the movie anyway though. I'm a huge geek for pretty movies (ex those documentaries made for iMax) and comic book movies so I was practically swooning all over the movie before it even started. The light and environments were gorgeous, especially on blu-ray. I really liked the story and adored Sam and Cora. The movie had a great ending, I'm so glad I watched and TRON: Legacy is definitely something I will be watching again.

Movie: Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe (TV 2011)
Genre: Crime | Drama | Mystery
Summary: Follows Sam Axe on a mission in Latin America and gives us a glimpse into his military past.
Rating: 5 Bites
Mini Review: OMG, so freaking good. If you love Burn Notice, this is a must see. I love Sam's character but I was a little worried that I wouldn't like it as much without Michael and Fiona. That definitely wasn't the case, I loved it just as much and appreciated Michael's little part and the Fiona reference too. I can't wait for some of the characters to make reappearances on Burn Notice's upcoming season.

Movie: Thor (2011)
Genre: Action | Adventure | Drama
Summary: The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.
Rating: 5 Bites
Mini Review: Best movie of 2011 thus far. And I'm not saying this just because I'm a comic book movie geek or because Chris Hemsworth is ridiculously pretty too. The dialogue (especially Kat Dennings' lines, so sarcastic and funny) and story were what blew me away. I will be getting this on blu-ray as soon as it comes out and watching it over and over again.

Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Genre: Action | Adventure | Fantasy
Summary: Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.
Rating: 5 Bites
Mini Review: I was so worried for this movie because, let's face it, as the PotC series progressed the movies went from so freakishly amazing to just good. I loved this movie though, loved it. It was utterly perfect until the end which felt incomplete. PS mermaids are creepy

Movie: Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)
Genre: Animation | Action | Adventure
Summary: Po joins forces with a group of new kung-fu masters to take on an old enemy with a deadly new weapon.
Rating: 4 Bites
Mini Review: Super cute kids movie, I enjoyed it more than the first one. I actually would rate this movie 5 stars but I was bothered by some of the adoption dialogue. I am oversensative about that though, both of my siblings are adopted and I saw the movie with my sister. Wasn't all that impressed with the 'because your parents didn't love you' line. It was a very minor part of the movie and every other part of the movie was great.

Movie: Green Lantern (2011)
Genre: Action | Crime | Sci-Fi
Summary: A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.
Rating: 4 Bites
Mini Review: If you can get past the stupid looking aliens, you'll enjoy this movie. I thought the story was great and very humorous without being childish. It's not even close to my favorite comic book movie but it was very watchable. A side rant: parents who bring their five year old children to see movies like this with them because either they can't say 'no' to their kid, don't care, or want to see it themselves but can find a babysitter are complete and utter trash. There were tons of little kids at the threater to see this when I went. One mother left with a crying little girl only a few minutes into the movie and she was berating her child for not being a 'big girl'.

Movie: The Mechanic (2011)
Genre: Action | Crime | Thriller
Summary: Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.
Rating: 4 Bites
Mini Review: I love Jason Statham, crazy obsessive fangirl love. I'm also a sucker for assassin hero movies. I really enjoyed this movie. I will say that violence/gore doesn't bother me unless it's medically related, however, one part of this movie got to me. I don't really want to spoil it so I'll just say 'gross gross gross kitchen sink garbage disposal'. Against other movies, I would probably rate this one a five but against The Transporter series, it just doesn't even compare.

These kinds of posts won't pop up very often because Bitten Books is a book blog however I wanted to share some movie thoughts.

  7. Ahh, I'm so glad you liked the movies that I enjoyed haha (: From these, I've seen Lemonade Mouth (awesome movie, especially for Disney Channel), Tron (geeked out at the technology), Thor (Best line of 2011: "This mortal form grows weak! I require sustenance!"), Pirates 4 (LOVED the creepy mermaids! And Jack is always amusing), and Kung Fu Panda 2 (loved the first one, OBSESSED with this one <3).
So, like I said, I'm glad you agreed. And I think you just convinced me to give Green Lantern a shot :D I wasn't planning on it, but you said it was good, so I may!
