Waiting on Wednesday #10

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Book: Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer by Cecily von Ziegesar
Expected Publication: October 3rd 2011 by Poppy
Summary: Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where my friends and I live, go to school, play, and sleep-sometimes with each other. It's a luxe life, but someone's got to live it . . . until they die.
So begins Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer, a re-imagined and expanded slasher edition of the first groundbreaking Gossip Girl novel, featuring all new grisly scenes and over-the-top gore by #1 New York Times bestselling author Cecily von Ziegesar.
Just as in the original story, Serena returns from boarding school hoping to make amends with her BFF Blair Waldorf—things just haven't been the same since Nate Archibald came between them. But here's where our dark tale takes a turn: Serena decides that the only way for her to make things right with Blair is to eliminate Nate. If that means killing him, well, c'est la vie. Her attempted murder doesn't go unnoticed by Blair, however, who isn't about to let Serena kill whoever she wants-not when there's Cyrus Rose and Chuck Bass and Titi Coates and everyone else who's ever irritated Blair to get rid of first . . . .
American Psycho's Patrick Bateman has met his match in Manhattan's newest, most fabulous trendsetting serial killers, Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen.

Why I'm Waiting On It: I'm completely unsure about how good this book will be but it excites me so much to see that it's the original author writing a parody of her own work. Plus it sounds fun.

Book: Down These Strange Streets by George R.R. Martin and Gardner R. Dozois (Editors)
Expected Publication: October 4th 2011 by Ace Hardcover
Summary: All new strange cases of death and magic in the city by some of the biggest names in urban fantasy.
In this all-new collection of urban fantasy stories, editors George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois explore the places where mystery waits at the end of every alley and where the things that go bump in the night have something to fear...
Includes stories by New York Times bestselling authors Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Diana Gabaldon, Simon R. Green, S. M. Stirling, and Carrie Vaughn, as well as tales by Glen Cook, Bradley Denton, M.L.N. Hanover, Conn Iggulden, Laurie R. King, Joe R. Lansdale, John Maddox Roberts, Steven Saylor, Melinda Snodgrass, and Lisa Tuttle.

Why I'm Waiting On It: Take a look at that totally kick-butt lineup of authors and ask me again why I'm waiting on this one.

Share what you're waiting on or links to what you're waiting on in the comments and I'll be sure to check it out! I included a YA and adult pick because I couldn't pick just one.

    I'm actually not a Gossip Girl fan either. Well, I really enjoyed the first book but I wasn't able to stomach a single one after it. I really enjoyed the first few episodes of the tv series and, again, wasn't able to continue after a while.
    I'm really amused by the idea of Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer though.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Psycho Killer's cover makes me laugh every time I see it. Probably because it's so ridiculous how it's so bloody and they're laughing, haha. Great picks!!

    Down These Strange Streets has so many authors that I'm nuts over. When I first came across it on goodreads I was shocked by the awesomeness. Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs and Carrie Vaughn are some of my FAVORITE urban fantasy writers. The only one they left out was Jeaniene Frost.

    I know! When I first saw the cover I couldn't stop giggling. It's perfect!

    My thoughts exactly. I'm so glad it's Cecily von Ziegesar writing it, I think it will be more fun that way.

    @Penelope Lolohea
    Can you imagine if they did an episode for Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer? I would be all over that.

    I love how she's holding the knife and still has that huge smile. The cover will definitely make GG fans do a double take in bookstores.

    @Bookish Brunette
    This book looks like way too much fun to pass up. I wish the original series had gone this route...

  15. @Marla
    Yes, it definitely is. I certainly did a double take when I stumbled across it on goodreads. I actually thought it was a joke at first since very few people had added it to their shelves.

    @YA reader
    Not problem, glad I could help a fellow book blogger out! :)

  16. Oh my. Is that Gossip Girl cover/title for real? Ha! How clever. Even though I've never read any of the Gossip Girl books before, I can't help but be interested in reading it!

  17. @Aylee
    I thought the same thing at first. I was browsing goodreads and thought it was just a joke, especially since Cecily von Ziegesar was left as the author and the cover is the 'same' as the original.

  18. Awesome picks! I haven't heard of either of these before, but they sound great!
